Company Director, Architect & Passivhaus Certified Designer
With the simple aim to create delightful and sustainable architectural solutions, Herlig was established in 2016. Continuing to develop strong relationships within the local industry, including building contractors and specialist suppliers, and through working collaboratively with other architects, Herlig has developed a growing portfolio of independent work.
Prior to her role as Director, Vanessa has worked on education projects within Worcestershire for circa 10 years, where the local authority and independent academy trusts have been the major client. As Principal Architect, this included all aspects of the project cycle, from feasibility, concept designs and contract management, to construction supervision. Projects included the design and construction of new schools, community buildings, and residential developments. During this period Vanessa qualified as a Certified Passivhaus Designer.
Vanessa has previously worked for Architectural practices in Jamaica, Malaysia, London, Birmingham and Worcester, and has experience in working on a range of projects in the commercial and retail sectors. An interest in community participation in the design process, developed whilst studying for her Masters degree, this led to a period working for the West Midlands Architecture Centre-MADE, coordinating community led design projects, before returning to practice.
With a keen interest in a wide variety of creative disciplines, Vanessa’s work is often identified by an attention to detail, where elements introduced during the design process provide a unique statement, whilst forming an integral part of the solution.
